Jamestown Container Companies - a custom box manufacturer that supplies everything from custom box packaging, custom plastic packaging and litho laminated containers, to wholesale shipping supplies, contract packaging services and product package design - had a difficult time recruiting qualified individuals for Machine Helper positions before working with RochesterWorks!
Since placing their job description with RochesterWorks! the Falconer, NY-based company has hired four employees at its Rochester plant.
Additionally the company has found it now attracts more applicants for its positions compared to previous resources it used, says Jamie Newell, HR Representative/Project Coordinator.
“We have seen a difference in the employees' ability, attendance, commitment to the job, and overall attitudes,” Newell says.
RochesterWorks! was also able to recommend customized improvements to Jamestown Container’s recruitment process.
“We listened carefully to their needs and helped them take advantage of services that would address those needs,” says Christina Bakewicz, Business Services Coordinator for RochesterWorks!
The first step was to assess the Machine Helper position and assign a preferred WorkKeys Career Readiness Credential (CRC) level. The WorkKeys CRC is part of a nationally recognized job skills assessment system.
After RochesterWorks! posted the job for Jamestown Container, select candidates were referred to RochesterWorks! to complete the WorkKeys CRC assessment.
“Candidates were very receptive to taking the assessment and I believe the assessment itself was, at times, an important determining factor for hiring an individual,” Newell says.
Posting job orders and openings with RochesterWorks! and implementing the CRC assessment have been great additions to Jamestown Container’s recruiting process and a huge improvement over previous methods, Newell says.
Based on this success, the company now uses the CRC assessment as part of the recruitment process with other job openings as well.
