RochesterWorks and the Department of Labor Offer Services to Help Companies that are Restructuring

RochesterWorks! and the Department of Labor understand that tough economic times have caused companies to make difficult decisions. If your company is facing lay-offs, there are some options that may help your employees make this difficult transition, shorten their time between jobs, and reduce unemployment insurance costs.

Career Navigator Program
Career Navigator is a 5-day intensive training program, offering professional level job search training. This program will help your employees jump start their job search using an interactive, strategic approach to proactively manage their futures. Workshops can be held on-site. Give your employees the knowledge they need to find a new job sooner, reducing the costs associated with unemployment insurance. For more information, contact Christina Bakewicz at 585-232-5232 or cbakewicz@rochesterworks.org.

The Trade Adjustment Act
This Act helps workers who have lost their jobs as a result of foreign trade. The TAA program offers a variety of benefits and services to eligible workers, including job training, income support, job search and relocation allowances, a tax credit to help pay the costs of health insurance, and a wage supplement to certain reemployed trade-affected workers 50 years of age and older.

Recently, this act has been expanded to cover workers in different industries. Some examples of new groups of workers that may now be certified under the New TAA Program include workers: in firms that supply services, whose firm has shifted production to any foreign country, in public agencies, whose firm produces component parts of a finished article produced by its customer(s), in firms that supply testing, packaging, maintenance and transportation services to companies with TAA-certified workers, and whose firm is identified in an International Trade Commission “injury” determination listed in the Act.
